Last week I dropped in on Marty Walsh and the Berklee City Music Rock ensemble preparing for their debut performance at Berklee’s annual High School Jazz Festival. They were energized and ready to rock… I have the ring in my ears to prove it 🙂
Berklee City Music students in Winston Maccow’s Advanced Ensemble were in for a treat when renowned trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis stopped by to impart his wisdom. Mr. Marsalis was in town as a special guest for the Berklee High School Jazz Festival, which took place on March 13, 2010 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. The group was preparing for the first ever Band Slam Competition. Who better to fine tune this talented group of students for their upcoming Jazz Fest performance?
“He gave us good advice, like asking myself if someone would want to dance to my music. Sure, I want to express how I feel, but at the end of the day, you also want to entertain people. He helped me find a medium.”
– Juliana Davis (student)
