They may someday play the world-famous, 10,000-seat National Auditorium in Mexico City, Pop Filter, for now, settled on a performance outside before taking the stage around the corner in the Lunario theater for the Berklee Canta en Espanol concert. Pop Filter is Micky and Philip, from Mexico, and Dahiu, from Uruguay. The trio of Berklee alumni and Berklee Canta finalist play the tune “El Cuervo.”

All of the Berklee Canta performers rehearsed on Tuesday at a Mexico City conservatory. A TV crew from Televisa trailed them, shooting b-roll for the November TV special.During a break, five of the finalists agreed to interview each other, each taking the roll of a two-question talk show host. This crew is as entertaining in conversation as they are on stage.
a press conference with Berklee, SGAE, and local tourism reps, an awards presentation to the alumni performers, a red carpet for the Latin pop stars and Berklee Canta contestants, a concert and competition at the Lunario theater, and a crew from Televisa’s music channel Telehit to tape the whole affair for a TV broadcast to 60 countries next month. Phew. The moment has arrived.
Berklee Canta headliners and songwriting contestants became visible on Monday, and mingled with the small community of Berklee staff who were dispatched to Mexico City to work behind the scenes on the concert. Tommy Torres and Rique Colon, among others, rode in a van headed for a rehearsal space rented for the backing band to make an initial run through the songs with some of the performers.
