An Inside Look at the Tech Companies in Silicon Valley

By Alyse Brown

After attending the Silicon Valley Trip, my perspective on the tech industry has changed.  The opportunity to meet with top companies has opened my eyes to many positions where a Berklee student could work at after graduation. I had been planning to attend graduate school next year, but after meeting with Berklee alumni, I am now contemplating taking a different path. The alumni dinner was really impactful for me, as it showed me a new range of benefits that can be achieved with a music degree from Berklee. The spaces are designed to design; whether you’re studying acoustical engineering or user experience design (UX). I truly believe that this concept of professional collaboration across various departments applies to every place we visited.

Enlightening Moments During The Silicon Valley Trip Experience

Entering the Silicon Valley Trip, I knew I would be networking but my experience surpassed just exchanging of business cards. At Facebook, I learned that they were hiring artists and paying them to create songs on behalf of Facebook which were directly credited to them. Through these partnerships, Facebook is giving these musicians a platform of 2 billion people at their disposal. My disheartened state towards social media was completely revamped through talking with the team members directly working on Facebook’s music department.
