Hollis Mugford is a sixth semester Professional Music major at Berklee. She is a pop, R&B, and country singer from Virginia. Her passion for writing and travel have inspired her to share her experiences and thoughts with the Berklee community and beyond as she embarks on her first semester abroad in Valencia, Spain.
After all the waiting – after all of the anticipation – I am finally in Spain! We landed in Valencia around noon on Monday after a long seven hour flight into Frankfurt on which I sat next to the most pleasant couple heading back home to Manchester. Simply put, Valencia is everything and so much more than I ever expected it to be – beautiful little streets lined with outdoor cafés and spanish tiles and tapas that are always something completely new and delicious at every different place.
I’m about to hop on a plane to Spain for my band’s first tour, and the adrenaline is kicking in. First and foremost, none of this would be possible without the support of Berklee College of Music. Having recently graduated from Berklee with a dual degree in Performance / Electronic Production & Design, I find it tremendously exciting to be representing my school abroad. Now I have a very serious message to share.
Irma Seleman graduated from Berklee on May 2014. Irma transferred to Berklee from the International College of Music in Malaysia, a member of the Berklee International Network. While at Berklee she majored in Contemporary Writing and Production as well as Performance. You can find her performing all over Boston and New York.
I thought I had seen a lot, learned so much, and met so many people from every part of the world when I came to Boston and Berklee, but I was wrong. These thoughts changed after I was offered an opportunity by Berklee to go to Finland and Russia for a Festival called Close Encounters Festival. The Pop & Jazz Konservatorio organized the festival and it took place in different venues in Helsinki and St. Petersburg, Russia.
