Five-Week scholarship students in the news!

It’s official! Summer programs are officially underway at the Berklee College of Music here in Boston, and the Five-Week scholarship students have arrived. Some are returning participants, but many are taking in all that Berklee has to offer during the summer months for the very first time.

We were fortunate enough to receive word from different affiliate sites within the Berklee City Music Network, that some of our full scholarship students had recently been featured on various news stations in their local areas.

Congratulations, Five-Week Scholars! We trust that you will all enjoy Boston and continue to allow the gift of music to enrich your life as well as the lives of others.

The PULSE Training Institute July 18th – July 22nd: Making PULSE Your Own

The PULSE Training Institute is right around the corner and we’ve been working hard to make it the best yet! PTI is the training program that provides certification to teachers on how to integrate PULSE into their classrooms and utilize all of the tools PULSE has to offer.

We will be welcoming eighteen Berklee City Music Network site teachers to Boston for one week in July. Our own team members will be leading the workshops of the training as well as such special guests as Charyn Harris and Dennis Mauricio.

The workshops will cover everything PULSE: overviews of the rooms on the site, creative teaching ideas, assessment of students, how to make the most out of what you have, creating lesson plans and more! At the end of the week, participating teachers will have the chance to present their ideas on how to integrate PULSE into their sites in the form of a lesson plan and an aural presentation.

With PTI only about 2 weeks away, we’re in great shape and looking forward to getting to know the attendees. Other things to look forward to: the PULSE training manual will be complete by then (it is amazing) and of course, all of our PULSE merch!!!

Make sure you keep up to date on future trainings!

Berklee City Music First Hand

Following up on our previous post about Nicolas Perez, here is the man himself along with Gregory Groover speaking about their experience with Berklee City Music.

Expanding the PULSE tunes library: at the Latin Billboard Music Awards

The PULSE department has made recording Latin music for our library a top priority for the coming year–a lofty goal considering the level diversity within the genre. I had the privilege of attending the Billboard Latin Music Conference and Awards in Miami, Florida on behalf of our team this past April. This was an opportunity to get a firsthand look at what’s happening in the industry. I was happy to connect with the community and to discuss our education outreach efforts.
This song is called Todo Cambio by the band Camila. It is a blend of the Rock En Espanol and Pop Latino genres.

Banded goes to the Ballet

Banded. Ballet. Baroque. Yes, we also think it’s an amazing combination! And you can see all three Saturday evening when the Michael J. Epstein Memorial Library brings its Banded composition to life through a special performance at “BalletRox Springs Out of the Box.” The PULSE team has been filming the band for several weeks in its rehearsal space (read: funky kitchen) for the Banded project, and we’ve watched this piece come to life — from its initial phase of being nothing but a thematic idea through to the polished piece that was recently rehearsed by dancers at the Tony Williams Dance Center in Boston. So before you see the big show on Saturday, we thought we’d give you a glimpse of some behind-the-scenes images from our recent shoots. You can purchase tickets using the link above.

Berklee associate professor, composer and performer Linda Chase gives the MJEML crew some compositional ideas at a recent rehearsal.

Drummer Sophia Cacciola, Michael J. Epstein and singer Tanya Palit finalize lyrics for their Banded composition.
