Big Questions, Big Ideas: Being a Fellow for the Open Music Initiative

small snare innovationRecently, BerkleeICE completed a summer lab that tried to help foster the creation of a new service/project/business that will be beneficial to creating an open source for the identification of music rights.

The summer lab was under the banner of the Open Music Initiative— a leading group of people from creators, to technologists, to entrepreneurs, and music industry experts that are driven and devoted to promoting the development of open source standards in the music industry.

IDEO, A global design company that helps public and private companies with their innovation and growth, guided the technical platform for the project. For the last few months, OMI hosted gatherings and labs. Some of the launch gatherings include one on June 22 in New York City with all OMI participants. One of the events included a three-week innovation lab in Boston, run by BerkleeICE with guidance from IDEO, which involved choosing participates from current students and recent graduates create models and explore the project deeper.

Berklee College of Music Featuring Ava Suppelsa

Screen Shot 2016-03-03 at 2.43.54 PMWith her blend of folk, pop and country Ms.Ava Suppelsa has the voice of an angel that will sweep you off your feet. Born and raised in Evanston, Illinois, at 18 years old Suppelsa is already well beyond her years with her achievements. Starting at only 12 years old she began writing her own music and performing all over the Chicago area. In 2013, Suppelsa participated in the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. The Academy is a boarding school for grads 9-12 specializing in the arts and music. Her emphasis was being involved in their singer/songwriting program.

Now many years into the future the extensive high school music career paid off when she received her acceptance letter for the Berklee College of Music Class of 2019. Currently she is duel majoring in Songwriting and Music Business. We will soon be treated with the release of her newest EP that has not been titled yet. I was honored to be able meet with Ms.Suppelsa to talk about her first year of Berklee and the newest accomplishments to her repertoire of experience.

Behind The Music Featuring The Ben Cote Band

With their rich, dirty bass and guitars riffs, to their big drums, and edgy vocals, The Ben Cote band definitely delivers the Rock N’ Roll lifestyle that is lacking in today’s music industry! After trial and error with multiple bands they finally found their hook in the summer of 2014. The Ben Cote Band started in the Worcester live music scene, frequently playing at venues such as Partners Pub, The Palladium, Beatnik’s and dozens of other locations. You can also see them playing shows in Boston, especially at Berklee College of Music.

Behind The Music Featuring Ali Zagame

Whether it is through her personal life or from the lives who have been touched around her. Originally born in Paris, France, Zagame was primarily born in Worcester Massachusetts. Her music career started when she was about 12 years old and continues today. Now a graduating senior here at the Berklee College of Music.

Berklee Behind The Music Featuring Seven Spires

Seven SpiresThere is nothing more promising than musicians who can deliver just as much as they do on their recordings as they do live. Berklee band Seven Spires is just the theatrical metal band to do it. With their combination of classical style vocals mixed with a metal rock inspired band, they sure are able to sweep you off your feet and into the mosh pit.

All the official members of Seven Spires are students here at the Berklee College of music and they each come from very different backgrounds. Born and raised in Texas, Adrienne Cowan, the front women, was offered a full academic scholarship sponsored by Lolapalooza music festival. She is now studying Pro Music with an emphasis in composition.
