Students Share their Experience from the Berklee in Santo Domingo 2014 Program

Berklee on the Road (BOR) is one of the many programs produced by the Global Initiatives department at Berklee. This program provides students the chance to experience Berklee-like classes. The classes typically take place over a three- to five-day period. During these programs, students participate in lectures, labs, master classes, ensembles, workshops, and jam sessions during the day and have the opportunity to attend special events, panel discussions, and live performances in the evening.

Berklee on the Road (BOR) es uno de los muchos programas producidos por el departamento de Iniciativas Globales de Berklee. Este programa ofrece la oportunidad a estudiantes de experimentar el estilo de clases de Berklee. Típicamente los programas duran de tres a cinco días. Durante estos programas los estudiantes participarán en conferencias, laboratorios, ensambles, talleres y sesiones de improvisación durante el día, y tienen la oportunidad de asistir a eventos especiales, mesas redondas, y presentaciones en vivo en la noche.

Increíble fue el momento  que leí el correo en el que me aceptaban para participar en el programa del Berklee College en Santo Domingo. Una semana de intensivo aprendizaje musical! Esperaba que fuera muy buena. Sin embargo, fue genial! Llegaba a las 10 am y a las 6:30 pm aún estaba con el mismo gran entusiasmo. Las clases eran interactivas y al mismo tiempo cada minuto era lleno de información de calidad.  Las horas pasaban y me daba cuenta de todo lo que había hecho cuando llegaba a la casa con toda la información. Fue una semana con el valor de meses de aprendizaje.

Estoy agradecida de Dios porque al mismo tiempo pude nutrirme al escuchar las anécdotas de profesionales increíbles y de gran experiencia en el área musical, quienes estaban siempre dispuestos a enseñarnos con una energía motivadora y a compartirnos sus conocimientos de la mejor manera posible. También conocer tanto talento dominicano reunido ahí para dar el todo por el todo y absorber la mayor cantidad de información y disfrutar de esta oportunidad.  Dentro de todo esto fui bendecida con otro regalo, ya era más que grandioso el hecho de haber entrado en el programa, pero gracias a Dios recibí la oportunidad de audicionar para becas que iban a ser entregadas a participantes del programa y vivir esa experiencia de audicionar para la universidad de Berklee.

Los días pasaban y cada uno de ellos nos dejaba grandes recuerdos en nuestros corazones y un antes y un después en nuestras vidas como músicos. El último día nos dieron la oportunidad de ser intérpretes  y disfrutar de un tiempo maravilloso de buena música y compartir escenario con nuestros compañeros y profesores, despidiendo en concierto esta grandiosa semana. Al final del mismo, llegó el momento de las premiaciones y Dios abrazó mi corazón con otra bendición, recibí una de las 5 becas entregadas por Berklee College y el Ministerio de Cultura de República Dominicana. Tener una semana junto a estos grandes exponentes de la música fue fantástico, pero recibir la oportunidad de continuar aprendiendo de esta maravillosa fuente de información durante 12 semanas más, fue para mí una de las bendiciones más grandes que he recibido. Le doy muchas gracias a Dios por esta oportunidad y a todas las autoridades del evento como a Juan Luis Guerra por regalarnos la dicha a  jóvenes músicos de crecer en lo que amamos y nos apasiona, gracias por darle calidad a nuestros sueños.

Amazing was the moment when I read the email that said I was accepted to participate in a week of intensive musical learning at the Berklee College program in Santo Domingo. However, it was amazing! It started every day at 10am and ended at 6:30 pm and I always felt the same enthusiasm and energy. The classes were interactive and at the same time every minute was full of quality information. The hours passed and I realized what I had done when I got home with all the information. It was a week with value equivalent to months of learning.

I was grateful to God that while I could listen the amazing stories of professionals and experienced people in the music area, who were always willing to teach with a motivating energy and share with us their knowledge in the best way possible . Also it was really exciting  to see how much young Dominican talent where giving everything they had and absorb as much information and enjoy this opportunity.  I was blessed with another gift, it was more than great the fact that I entered in the Berklee program, but Thank God I got the opportunity to make the audition for the scholarships that would be given to program participants and get  experience auditioning to Berklee college .

The days passed and each one left us great memories in our hearts and a before and after in our lives as musicians. The last day we had the opportunity to be performers and enjoy a wonderful time of good music and sharing the stage with our classmates and teachers, ending this special week. At the end of it, it was time for the awards and God embraced my heart with another blessing, I received one of 5 scholarships provided by Berklee College and the Ministry of Culture of Dominican Republic . Having a week with these great exponents of music was fantastic, but given the opportunity to continue learning from this wonderful source of information for 12 weeks more , was for me one of the greatest blessings I have received. I thank God for this opportunity and all the authorities of the event as Juan Luis Guerra, for giving young musicians a chance to grow into what we love and we have passion on, thank  for giving quality to our dreams.
