First-hand accounts of the Berklee experience

Andre Vasconcelos interviews Michael League

Last week me and two companions had the pleasure to interview one of the most notorious young artists of today’s scene. Michael League is a bassist, composer, producer, arranger, manager, record label owner and much, much more. This very capable musician took some time out of his intensely busy schedule to do a video interview with me for the Berklee Blogs!

This post was authored by Andre Vasconcelos, writer of the Brazilian Portuguese tab for the Berklee Blogs.

The idea was originated when I found out that Snarky Puppy would be playing at the Berklee Performance Center on March 30th. Since I am a huge fan of the group I decided that writing an article about them and their leader, Michael League would be very interesting. After a few emails back and forth between myself, my boss Jeff Holden and Michael League himself we scheduled an interview at his house in Brooklyn, New York!

The next step was organizing the trip to New York from Boston and making it back here in time for classes, rehearsals and work! For all the video related work I invited once again my good friend Stan Moon and Evan Waaramaa, both incredible musicians and very helpful people. Our interview was scheduled for 7:45pm on Monday the 18th, so we bought tickets to leave for NYC at 11:00pm on Sunday with the return trip being at 11:00pm on the same Monday following the interview.

This 24 hour trip turned out to be quite an adventure and a very exciting time. New  York City is great and spending the day there in preparation to our big interview with Michael that night was worth so much time in the bus on a small 24 hour span.

As shown in the interview, me and Michael discussed how does he manage to handle so many responsibilities towards his groups and his career. We talked about the upcoming two live performances of Snarky Puppy and we also talked his bass playing and his approach to music in general. It was an incredible experience and I’m extremely thankful to have been part of this. I hope you enjoyed the interview as much as I did!

  1. I have been browsing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be much more useful than ever before.
