Today we pay homage to Korea Foundation Day “Gaecheonjeol / 개천절” (actually observed on October 3rd) which commemorates the founding of the Korean nation in 2333 B.C. Its origins are rather mythical thus linking the Korean people with a heavenly origin. That could explain the astronomical success of the pop phenom/dance party staple, PSY. Or, that he attended Berklee College of Music.
Korean culture and presence are deeply felt at Berklee with a vibrant student body. Berklee City Music is fortunate to have Hey Rim Jeon, jazz pianist, faculty advisor for the student group “PopKorn,” a K-pop club at Berklee, and City Music Teacher. And, the college’s partnership with the Seoul Jazz Academy continues to grow as a member of the Berklee International Network.
As part of the Special Events Series, the MFA is celebrating Korea Foundation Day with an opening of the new gallery for the Arts of Korea today between 3-9:45 p.m. Tour the galleries, see a performance by percussion group Gong Myoung, and enjoy some Korean dishes.
감사합니다. Thank you.
