Jake Cohen during a session with Liz Longley @ Morningstar StudiosHey all! I’ll be posting for the next three days, talking all about the show I’m doing with Liz Longley at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. But first, I wanted to just let you know a little bit about who I am:

My name is Jake Cohen, and i’m a 6th semester Drummer majoring in Performance at Berklee. I’m originally from Bala Cynwyd, PA (A suburb of Philadelphia), and have been playing drums since I was 4. I came to Berklee in 2006 and have never looked back. I’ve loved music my whole life, but when I came to a place where I could find other people that liked Tower of Power, Frank Zappa, Steely Dan, and many others, I couldn’t contain myself. The school has so much to offer, and is a tremendous asset to the music industry. I have complete confidence that many of my classmates (and, maybe myself?) will one day be at the forefront of the music world. But enough about me:

We just arrived at the State Plaza Hotel. It’s pretty dope! I’ve got a nice room all for myself. Even has a kitchen (weird?). We’re all headin to dinner in Georgetown at 6. Italian! mmmmmmm.

Today has been pretty interesting. On our own, flying to a gig, each of us having our own hotel room. I couldn’t help but think, “this is what it’s like to really be out there in the business, doin your thing”. It’s unbelievable that Berklee gets us opportunities like this, and I’m so excited for all of it.

Tomorrow is the big day. Liz is doin a radio show first, and then we hit the Kennedy Center Stage at 6. The Terrace Theater, to be exact. Should be a fantastic set. The band is super tight, after recording Liz’s upcoming album “Somewhere In The Middle” in March in Philadelphia, and gigging throughout April. This show couldn’t come at a more perfect time, and I hope everyone enjoys it tomorrow night.

If anyone wants to watch the show Live on the internet, it starts at 6 PM tomorrow night, and here’s the link!

Peace
Jake
